Accessibility for All

toward an environment that is free of obstacles

What is the accessibility?
Accessibility is a free, independent and safe to move for all. Which aim is to create a free barriers environment and thus increasing the movement of people as well as people with disabilities, pregnant women, elderly, children, people with temporary interruption, and others. The long term goal is to establish a friendly and save environmenta, at the same time, accessiblity implementation can increase social participation and will ensure rights of all citizens in a community to have access public facilities and services. Accessibility is a key factor for an inclusive society.


What is the friendly and save environment?
An environment is friendly and save if all parts can be accessed from:
• Streets
• Public places
• Transportation networks
• Private buildings


A building is accessible, if all people can:
• Log In
• Moving on
• Using the facilities
• Leave the building


Why accessibility is important?
• Accessibility IS A RIGHT
International law (UN resolution on 20 December 1993, the Convention Article 19)
• disability is SITUATIONAL
The biggest problem facing by peoples with special need in their daily activities is the obstacles in the environment, not because of their dissability;
• Accessibility is A KEY FACTOR FOR INCLUSIVE society
An free barriers environment is a key factor for inclusion for people with different abilities in the life of the community, to increase their participation and movement.

What is the responsibility of us as an architect?
as a building and environmental planners, an architect have responsibility to consider and implement accessibility through the principles of universal design in each design, especially on projects involving public facilities
